GOH WAN QI
Women’s Epee Fencer
Fencing came into my life when I was 17. Having played netball for four years, I was keen to try out a different sport. I was captivated by fencing, drawn by the elegant movements, the adrenaline rush whenever a point is scored, and the fact that fencing is a sport that is in a class of its own. It started out as a mere co-curricular activity, but soon it was not enough to satisfy me. I found myself wanting to achieve more, to push to be better and surpass myself. My heart was set and thus I began to put in extra effort to work towards my goal. I am grateful for my coaches who taught me patiently and constantly pushed me to stretch beyond my abilities; as well as my seniors and teammates who are always encouraging and helpful. Without them, I would not be where I am today. Fencing is now a major part of my life, and it is here to stay.
