At just 14 years of age, Matthew James Lim was crowned the youngest ever Cadet champion in Singapore’s fencing history last weekend during the annual Singapore Cadet Fencing Championships.

Matthew ranked 8 after the preliminary rounds and fought an uphill battle, meeting his seniors in every bout en-route to the finals. His efforts culminated in a nail-bitingly close final at the end of the day, with Matthew beating his opponent 15-14.

Matthew has been with the Absolute Fencing family since he first started in 2008. In 2015, he was chosen to join the Singapore Sports School. Under the specialized fencing program and ABF’s tutelage, Matthew has flourished, progressing in leaps and bounds as seen with his recent competition results.

The Singapore Cadet Championships were held at the Singapore Sports Hub from 27th to 29th May. The Cadet Men’s Foil event saw 37 participants this year.
