Having started fencing at the tender age of 6, Matthew knows what it is like learning fencing from a young age. This makes Matthew a very understanding yet firm coach. With his millage in the sport, he has the ability to relate closely to students of all ages. On top of that, Matthew understands the importance of enjoying the sport.

He is always seen thinking of exercises that are fun and interesting while at the same time valuable lessons to his students. Although fun may be the goal, Matthew can also be firm when he needs to be. He always pushes his students to better themselves, ensuring they give nothing less than a hundred percent effort.
